AgroPonte Fair brings together high standard animals in the Nellore and Brahman trials

Champions of both breeds were defined after technical evaluations carried out by a jury accredited by ABCZ

The trials of the Nelore and Brahman breeds moved the livestock program at the 15th AgroPonte Fair this Thursday and Friday, dias 13 e 14 of August. Breeders from different regions took their animals to the judging ring and presented specimens that, according to the jury of the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ), Felipe Afonso de Souza, are at the same level as the animals found in the main exhibitions in the country.

“I was surprised by the quality of the animals here, both the Nelore breed and the Brahman breed. Many animals fit within the standards of their particular breeds. The champions here do not lose in any aspect to the champions in Brazil outside.”, evaluates Felipe.

Assessment considers different characteristics

During the trial, the animals are analyzed based on a set of characteristics specific to each breed. The assessment begins with racial profiling, which considers the attributes that give identity to Nellore and Brahman.

Aspects such as muscle development are also observed, growth, carcass precocity, sexual precocity, sexual dimorphism and uprightness, which are related to the way the animal moves and positions itself. “It’s a set of characteristics that we try to identify in the best animals that represent that breed, in that category, at that age. And here they were very well represented, by both females and males.”, explains the jury.

Second Philip, The evolution of livestock farming in Santa Catarina can also be seen in the quality of the animals presented on the track. “It is very important to see Santa Catarina strengthened and an evolution. I hope to be able to come back here more often to monitor the performance of these animals., both young people and adults, which have a lot of quality.”

Special categories value adult animals

According to the director of Nossacasa Feiras e Eventos and creator of the AgroPonte Fair, Willi Backes, the Gran Senior category is aimed at males over the age of 36 and even 120 months, as long as they present a positive andrological examination report and are suitable for reproduction. The Gran Matriz includes females with more than 36 months that have offspring at their feet, pregnant or undergoing embryo or oocyte collection.

For the second year in a row, the Gran Senior title went to the bull PVT 115 Falcon, known as Hercules, from Cabanha Talisman, from Içara, by cattle farmer Adilor Loli Viana. A presença de animais de alto padrão genético nos julgamentos reforça o trabalho realizado pelos criadores catarinenses e também amplia a visibilidade dos rebanhos produzidos no Estado.

For Felipe Afonso de Souza, who is a veterinarian and has served as a judge accredited by ABCZ since 2013, the experience at the AgroPonte Fair showed a consistent evolution of the animals presented. “I'm very happy with what I saw here.
